How did Tulsa get its name?
A post office was established in 1879 for what has become Oklahoma’s second-largest city. Its name came from Tulsey Town, an old Creek town in Alabama, according to Shirk’s book. Wilson says Tulsa was named after the clan of Creeks called Tulsa Lochapoka who settled in this area in 1836.
