The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs is located about 30 miles south of Custer State Park but is well worth the drive. It is absolutely amazing. The site is only about 100′ x 175′ but 60 giant Mammoths and other critter remains were found well preserved at different levels of a prehistoric sinkhole.

Is the self guided tour at Mammoth Cave worth it?
That being said, it’s still a very fun tour and well worth the money. The cave is the longest cave system in the world and it’s absolutely breathtaking, so we will definitely be back once all of the tours open back up. We highly recommend Mammoth Cave and the National Park system is just wonderful.
