Did ee used to be called Orange?
On 11 May 2010 it was announced that both the Orange and T-Mobile brands would remain on British high streets, although their new merged parent company would be called EE. Orange’s broadband service was rebranded as EE Broadband on 30 October 2012.

What was Orange before Orange?
Orange the fruit came first. The word came into English either from Old French ‘pomme d’orenge‘, or from the Spanish ‘naranja’ (with the subsequent transfer of the ‘n’ over to the indefinite article, as per ‘apron’ and ‘adder’, originally ‘napron’ and ‘nadder’).

The auto transfer to EE would have allowed your existing Orange SIM to continue to work in your phone only on the EE 3G network. However if you want to use a new EE 4G SIM in it you will need to get it unlocked.

According to a statement published by the companies, the merger “will result in expanded network coverage and enhanced indoor and outdoor network quality for 2G and 3G services“. Jason Glynn, communications expert at comparison site uSwitch, says this is one area that could improve very soon following a merger.
