What does Michigan Works help with?
Michigan Works! has programs available to provide scholarships to help you go back to school for training: learn new skills and find long-term careers in an in-demand, high-wage field. Training opportunities include on-the-job training with local employers, skills upgrading, and occupational skills training.

Workforce development works by preparing workers with the skills necessary for a specific type of job. It prioritizes the value of ongoing workplace education and skills development, as well as addresses the hiring demands of employers.
Is Michigan Works a government agency?
Michigan Works was created under the Engler administration in the 1990s as a network of regional agencies. About half the Michigan Works agencies are affiliated with local governments, and the rest are private, nonprofit agencies.
Do I have to register with Michigan Works?

AUTOMOBILE REPAIRS ($900/12-month time period) Automobile repairs may be authorized up to $900 per participant in any 12-month period. The vehicle must be his/her primary means of transportation for employment-related activities.
Will Michigan Works pay for CDL training?

You may qualify for a one-time government grant to help you pay for a portion or the entire tuition amount for training. You would not be required to pay back the grant. If you qualify, the approval process usually takes a few weeks to complete.

How do you get a workers permit in Michigan?
Work permits can be obtained from the state of Michigan school issuing officer (the chief administrator of a school district, intermediate school district, etc.) of the school the minor attends or the school district where the minor will be employed.
How does the Michigan work Share program work?
Michigan’s Work Share program provides employers with an alternative to layoffs when the work available to employees decreases. Instead of the employer laying off some employees, all employees share the available work by working reduced hours and collecting a portion of unemployment benefits.
Can you lay employees off without pay?
If you are laid-off you should get your full pay unless it is part of your contract that your employer can lay you off without pay or on reduced pay. If it is not part of your employment contract, you may agree to change your contract. For example, a lay-off might be better than being made redundant.
