My husband and I took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks, stopping for the night in Denali. We upgraded to Gold Star in the domed car for the first half, Anchorage to Denali and I am glad we did. The seats are up higher because the dining car is in the bottom of the car.

Enjoyed it so much we did it twice. We took the train from Anchorage to Denali and back to Anchorage. In one leg we had the regular service and on one leg we had the gold star. Both were great experiences, but I really do recommend the gold star upgrade for the glass topped cars and open viewing cars.

All in All – For us, Our train ride was Outstanding and Unique-Spectacular Scenery and the Wild Animals were Fun to see on occasion. I Definitely Recommend This Train ride. It’s long and worth every minute. We left Anchorage and ended up in Fabulous Denali National Park.
