Getting around the zoo As I mentioned the zoo is on a steep hill. We had a toddler in a pushchair and it is doable with a pram. It is tiring though and you will get a workout! It’s also not the biggest zoo but we found it plenty big enough for us.
How long does it take to go around Edinburgh Zoo?
The Zoo covers a large area with some hilly aspects. Certainly a good 3 to 4 hours allows you time to see everything and grab some refreshments.
Is Edinburgh Zoo wheelchair friendly?
The majority of the paths around the Zoo can be accessed by wheelchair. Due to the hilly nature of our location, some routes involve steps or steep slopes which are unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Do you have to pay extra to see the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo?
No, all included in the main entrance fee. Check on the zoo website to see if you need to book a time slot to see them, we did not need to and stayed in the viewing area for as long as we wanted.
Are the pandas still at Edinburgh Zoo?
There are two giant pandas here at Edinburgh Zoo – Yang Guang and Tian Tian. Yang Guang is our male panda whose name means Sunshine in Mandarin and Tian Tian is our female panda whose name means Sweetie. Both pandas were born in August 2003 and turned 18 years old in 2021.
Can you feed the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo?
The panda keeper experience allows visitors to meet one of the panda keepers and learn about the training with the pandas. Visitors may also have the chance to feed the pandas and they will receive drinks and canapes on the panda walkway.
Is Edinburgh Zoo hilly?

Can you take a picnic to Edinburgh Zoo?

Whatever the weather, it is fun to eat outdoors! We’ve provided lots of benches and picnic areas to allow you to do just that. The two main picnic areas are located at the hilltop and around the main lawn in front of the mansion house.
Is there parking at Edinburgh Zoo?
Please note, as we are a city zoo, our car parking spaces are limited and only available on a first come, first served basis. Our car park is currently free to use and has been very popular, which means it can fill up early in the day, especially during busier periods such as school holidays.
Can I just turn up at Edinburgh Zoo?
No – the only booking slot you need is for entry into the zoo. Once you’re in, there is a free flow system in place and staff are on hand in busy areas where we have to limit numbers. You may have a short wait for your turn in the best viewing spot, but do not have to book a specific time for panda or giraffe viewing.
Is Edinburgh botanic gardens dog friendly?
Visitors with assistance dogs are welcome. However all other pet animals will not be able to access the grounds. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. We do not allow bicycles, scooters, frisbee, kites, footballs, mechanically-operated toys and models or drone cameras into the Garden.
Is Edinburgh Castle dog friendly?
Only assistance dogs are permitted, including within roofed areas. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time in the castle or vehicles. Owners must pick up after dogs. Visitors’ dogs are not permitted at the castle.
Does Edinburgh Zoo still do the Penguin Parade?
In line with government guidance, Penguin Parade and our other keeper talks are currently postponed as part of a wide range of safety measures in place to protect our visitors and staff.
What time of day are pandas most active?
Giant pandas are most active at night and in the hours of twilight. Their eyes have vertical slit-shaped pupils, similar to other nocturnal creatures, which enable them to see in the darkness. Unlike many other species of bear, the panda does not hibernate, though it does move to lower elevations in the winter.
Do you have to book a time slot to see the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo?

Did Edinburgh Zoo have babies with pandas?
Pregnancies. When in China Tian Tian, successfully gave birth to twins on 7 August 2009. The male cub was named Shen Wei and the female Bo Si. After her arrival at Edinburgh Zoo she had an unsuccessful mating season in 2012.
Is there a polar bear at Edinburgh Zoo?
There are four polar bears here at Highland Wildlife Park – Walker, Arktos, Victoria and her cub, Brodie, who was born in December 2021. Walker was born in December 2008 and while Arktos was born in November 2007.
How much do Edinburgh pandas cost?
After first arriving in the city in 2011, the pandas had originally been on a 10-year-loan, but will now remain in the zoo until 2023. After previously paying around £750,000 each year to loan and care for the pair, Edinburgh Zoo have confirmed they will now only cost about £375,000.
Can you be late to Edinburgh Zoo?

Is there sloths at Edinburgh Zoo?
We’re home to two Linne’s two-toed sloths at Edinburgh Zoo – a male named Moana and a female named Feira. Mo and Fe made their debut in the brand-new Sloths and Armadillos area in August 2021. See their arrival in their new purpose-built enclosure.
