Does Milwaukee Art Museum move?
On Tuesday, the Milwaukee County Board approved $45 million in borrowing for the project. The new building will tentatively open in 2026 although the museum said on Facebook that it will remain at its current location until the move. At that point, the museum will be renamed the Wisconsin Museum of Nature and Culture.

Why is the Milwaukee Museum closing?
There are several reasons why MPM is pursuing a new facility, but the most important is that the Museum will not be able to sustain operations into the future in the current building. The building, constructed in the early 1960s, is falling apart and has approximately $100 million deferred capital maintenance.
